Abstract: The artistic activity pertaining to nineteenth century Malta has been a subject of interest to various scholars, however, an in depth study of the lithographic output of this period has not yet been undertaken. This dissertation proposes to fill this literary void in the history of Maltese Art. The main aim of this research is to study and catalogue the lithographic work produced in Malta by artists resident in Malta during the 19th century, focusing on views, folklore, commemorative scenes and portraits. This study does not, however, focus on religious scenes and cartography.
