Abstract: Retail architecture is very much around us and is constantly in transition. Its success lies in the way it is very much around us and is constantly in transition. Its success lies In the way it reflects society at that point in time. Currently, we are living at a time of self service establishments and increasingly demanding customers in a technological world. Retailers are thus being challenged to have unique spaces, offer more to the consumer and to stand out in order to attract more customers. This has resulted in an Experience Economy, where retailers are not only offering products for sale, but also an experience. What do customers look tor when they go shopping? Do they only go with the intent ot buying or do they also regard this as a leisure activity or as a form of self-gratification? Regardless of utilitarian requirements, a typical trip to the stores has sometimes become more of an event to escape from the routine of everyday life.
