Abstract: Armed conflicts are a common phenomenon in Africa. Some of the conflicts are not only long-running but are known to be very brutal and horrendous. The attendant social and economic devastation of such conflicts have far-reaching implications in the socio-economic development of the affected countries. These conflicts also have the tendency of not only destroying the warring factions' involved, innocent civilians including women and children are also normally brutalized, killed, maimed and grossly abused.
