Abstract: It is intended that this research study will provide some understanding of the various plague epidemics that occurred in Malta from, the early the sixteenth century to the beginning of the nineteenth century, especially during the time of Order of St John Primarily it details how the Hospitalliers dealt with the plague epidemics as they struck the Islands. But the study also examines the causation of plagues and their spread throughout history. There was no real treatment of the disease and measures to control it were taken according to the medical theories of those times.
