Abstract: This dissertation aims to analyse Bronte's Jane Eyre and Rhys's Wide Sargasso Sea using Bal's concepts of narration and focalization. Chapter 1 provides a background to the two novels and an explanation of the narratological concepts employed in the study. In Chapter 2, the narratological concepts are used with reference to Bronte's Jane Eyre. Chapter 3 focuses on Rhys's Wide Sargasso Sea narratological concepts are also applied to it. The last chapter explores the advantages gained by the application of such concepts. Recommendations are made for possible development in this area of study.
