Abstract: n today's world it is uncommon to see people running around with diaries since these have been replaced with more recent technological devices. The smartphone is one of the most popular electronic devices since it is very practical to carry around. Android is one' of the' most popular mobile platforms and is growing at a fast rate. Being an open-source while providing a number of APIs, it encourages contribution from various developers This dissertation analyses the implementation of a mobile application which assists users in their everyday life. The study focuses on the fields of Location Based Services, Social Networks and Shortest Path Theories, and the main aim of the project was to create a personal assistant to users which would act as a reminder for stored appointments while helping them to find the shortest path to carry out a number of errands. Automatic Agenda Compiler allows users to enter and manage appointments, receive a notification when an appointment is due within an hour or a day, and also receive a notification if they are within a kilometre of a saved appointment. The implementation of the required features was successfully implemented and the system was tested with real data. During this phase of testing, a number of inaccuracies mostly related to the location based service, were identified and modified. Even though the application can be used, there are fu1iher enhancements which would make the system a better one. These future works are discussed in the final chapter of this dissertation.
