Abstract: The Golden Age of Piracy is the era between 1650 and the 1730's and consisted of 3 main events which forever changed the Caribbean, Pacific, Atlantic and Indian waters; the tide of the European empires in the New World as well as our perception of pirates and piracy. This dissertation explores the historical events, analyzes the social, legal and cultural changes within this constantly-shifting era and delves into the minds of some of the time's most notorious pirates.
