Abstract: This dissertation aims at filling a social gap by providing terminological suggestions in Maltese for the compilation of technical terms in the specialised field of psychology. The linguistic resources and potentialities of the Maltese language have been exploited to meet the demand of a technical lexicological compilation in order to assist local experts, and therefore concepts are analysed and naturalised to accommodate this scholarly need. Being a graduate in Psychology, Italian and Translation, I have become aware of the deficiencies that exist between psychology and the mother tongue, Maltese. Through my studies at the University of Malta and Lessius Hogeschool in Belgium, I have experiences at first hand the local shortages and needs in the field of psychology. The compilation of a Maltese glossary of psychological terms aims at making psychology more accessible to practitioners and at the same time enhancing the linguistic resources of Maltese which could prove useful to translators.
