Abstract: Research shows that revision rates of metal-on-metal hip replacements are on the rise as a consequence of con-osion and corrosion-wear. These phenomena lead :o several problems including: inflammatory reactions, DNA damage, toxicity and aseptic loosening. A possible solution to these problems is a carburising trec:tment wbch introduces S-phase onto the metal surface.
