Abstract: Given that storm-water runoff has been determined to be of a quality that points towards its use for recharge purposes, in line with relevant national and European legislation, then an integrated recharge strategy utilising soakaways can be implemented, whereby the recharge of groundwater through enhanced storm water percolation may contribute towards improving the qualitative and quantitative of groundwater, enhancing any further groundwater characterisation studies. As such, groundwater bodies may be aided to recover from their current deficit and in so doing further promoting the sustainable use of water resources in Malta.
