Abstract: The recent surge in demand for wind turbines has raised concern about availability of materials for their construction. The project analysis the possibility of replacing the electrical generator by a hydraulic pump. Such systems can be utilised to drive a centralised hydraulic turbine in reverse osmosis plants. This project analyses the dynamic response of a wind turbine driving a swash-plate pump, by utilising basic control principles to create models in MATLABĀ® and SIMULINK. The system is validated against a reference wind turbine such as the National Renewabe Energy Laboratories' (NREL) 5-MW Reference Wind Turbine.
