Abstract: Physical Planning should play a very important part in the development of the Maltese Islands. Over 300,000 persons live in an area of about 90 square miles that has little to offer in the way of natural resources or industrial output. Added to this is the fact that due to the recent building boom the area previously taken over by the compact building form, has increased by about 70% due to the loose-linked constructions and spread out development that has grown to cater for the 10:000 foreign settlers and the steady increasing wave of tourists.
