Abstract: The purpose of this study is to get a better insight in understanding the competitive strategy that Malta is implementing as a UCITS fund jurisdiction. The study provides a background of the UCITS schemes and other competitive schemes, non-UCITS and PIF's and shows different aspects which form this industry. The objective of the study is to provide the reader with a comprehensive intuition on the European retail fund product and observe how the Maltese jurisdiction is branding this fund whilst giving an overview of the competition in the industry. Throughout the study a number of sources have been utilised in order to obtain the most significant methodological information available, including the extensive fieldwork project carried out with leading local practitioners. In all, a holistic perspective of the current and potential strategies moving forward on the competitive position of Malta in the UCITS industry is aimed to be achieved through this study.
