The Malta stone

Abstract

To write a report about a material that is taken so much for granted in these islands is certainly a difficult task. This would have probably been rendered much easier had I not tried so hard to treat the subject almost exclusively from the point of view of its Maltese context. Although, in this work, I have offered a couple of solutions taken from the foreign scene, yet I have tried not to borrow too indiscriminately. On the one hand this has been the result of a certain sense of pride but on the other hand I have also found that the use of this material abroad is significantly different from ours, both as regards the properties of the material itself and the economics by which the whole industry is governed.
