Roads and streets in Malta : their development and construction

Abstract

It was originally intended to discuss only roads, but in an islands the size of Malta 9 street patterns are of such importance and influence that it was finally deemed necessary to include them also. This has required the dissertation to encroach onto the field of town planning during the discussion on the origin of the town and village street systems. This is however an unavoidable, for up to the turn of the century streets were given far more importance than the few roads then in existence.
