Abstract: Hybrid Architecture is a comprehensive study which examines the impact computers have had on architecture, tracing it back to the origins of the personal computer itself. As computing power increased so did its potential. How much this was exploited depended ultimately on the software available. Some of the most influential software packages will be discussed here, illustrating their development, and proving their influence on today's contemporary architecture. This dissertation proceeds to examine the design process followed by three of the most influential contemporary architects, presenting their views regarding the technology and attempting to understand what role the computer had in their success. Over the years, the computer power has increased drastically, but its use has only evolved from being simply a drafting tool, into a modelling and analysis tool. Other possibilities offered to architects by this vast computational power are discussed, delving into the realms of artificial intelligence, computer learning, and creativity. After a logical analysis of how architectural design works, a computer program flowchart is presented, illustrating an innovative idea of using the computer as an extension to the brain, utilizing it to perform the iterations involved in any creative design. This would enable many more possibilities to be considered resulting in a more efficient result.
