Abstract: The above was not being said of Malta but of Great Britain, a country with a relatively long tradition in comprehensive planning policy, legislation and practice. Yet the situation is felt to be so critical. What should one say of the state of affairs in Malta? Malta, an island country only 316km2 in area, that is over 750 times smaller than Great Britain and with a population density over 4.3 times higher. Notwithstanding these bare facts, what is said about Great Britain in terms of waste of land can even more so be said of Malta.
