Gypsum plasterboard : its availability & use in the local building industry

Abstract

The aim of this study was to encourage the use of gypsum plasterboard in the local building industry. Since it is a fairly new material, and after having recognized its importance, I feel that it needs to be promoted further. The study basically consists of a description of what is available on the market at present, what systems are used and misused locally and how they are applied, and what other systems and approaches my be taken to enhance the further use of gypsum plasterboard. A visual analysis of some case studies has also been done, with particular regard to gypsum plasterboard as an element of design, and how plasterboard systems can be applied to improve the overall fabric of an old 1930’s building, built by traditional steel beam supporting stone slabs. The description of contents that follows gives a basic summary of what each chapter will entail.
