Abstract: The twentieth century brought about major advancements in medicine. In return healthcare architecture became more concerned to make room for the latest medical technology rather than for its patients. Nowadays research in this field I indicating the importance of replacing spontaneous architectural creations with evidence-based design. Such studies are not meant to hinder architects and designers in creating beautiful buildings. On the contrary, they re intended to be used as a back up to their design so as to create more healing, homely and comfortable spaces where the ambience will send positive messages to all hospital users especially patients. This dissertation focuses on the emotional impacts which hospitals as one form of building can induce on patients, visitors and staff. It also gives an overview of the influence of architecture on the human mind which in return may affect the body possibly leading to quicker healing. It then moves on to survey local hospitals in view of the issues brought about throughout the text.
