Abstract: This research aims to identify the barriers female chefs come across and how they succeed to achieve the chefs’ position in the Maltese culinary industry. Despite in large numbers of oversees examples and testimonies on the internet, research about the Maltese culinary culture today is at a minimal and when it comes to the position of a female chef factors, challenges and successes search results are close to none. This study is going to focus on the females that are part of the Maltese culinary field today, this study focusses on twenty-five female chefs in the Maltese industry, wherewith the author they have shared and discussed their individual experiences and points of view, based on pre-selected topics in a questionnaire in a form of an interview via ‘Facebook video call’. This research aims to identify the main barriers these women come across in their carrier mainly gender perceptions to their skills and capabilities, masculinity, and a work-life balance.
