Abstract: This dissertation concerns women within the accountancy profession in Malta. It first gives a brief overview of the Maltese 'working' woman throughout these last decades. This is followed by an outline of the Maltese female accountant. The dissertation looks at the female accountant from two aspects: as a professional person with a career in accountancy and; as a woman who, besides having professional responsibilities, also has personal and maybe even family commitments. Throughout the whole study, the two major questions which are being explored are whether female accountants in Malta are reaching top positions at their workplace and whether they are able to balance work and private life. In order to find out more about these issues, answers to questions made to female warrant holders are analysed, resulting in a number of conclusions.
