Abstract: Tourism is certainly Malta's largest service industry and today's major growth sector of its economy. Despite the occasional setback, Malta's tourism industry expanded at an impressive rate and has grown into the major foreign currency earner for the islands. The NTOM has played a very active role in this success story. The National Tourism Organisation of Malta (NTOM) NTOM was set up in 1984 through the enactment of the National Tourism Act. It was held responsible for the overseas promotion of Malta as a tourism destination. The Maltese government and the private sector, in accordance with the Act, granted funds to NTOM. NTOM managed to be present in nine major cities with offices led by Maltese directors. It has also webbed together a network of overseas representatives stretching from Sydney to Buenos Aires.
