Abstract: Valletta was built by gentlemen for gentlemen; by gentlemen because of the donations received and for gentlemen because of the elegance in its structure and architecture. This richness in architecture has attracted a lot of people with different personalities: noble people and also their servants; eventually, giving birth to their children. Her colourful atmosphere acted as an attraction to many. By time, Valletta took the lead as the main commercial entity. Its anatomy has evolved during the passage of time - its heart and core: 'Strada Stretta' catered for a number of service men serving the British forces whilst 'Strada San Paolo' catered tor the commercial community. Valletta can boast to have withstood the test of time, from its birth during the reign of the Sovereign Order of St. John up to the Second World War. The destruction within it matured her. Change of culture, education and political ambitions aged Valletta and her service was transformed by time. The dissertation illustrates the capital of Malta through a surrealist interpretation in an effort to reveal its maturing identity.
