Prospects for reform of income tax in Malta : equity aspects

Abstract

Any administration, apart from pursuing its objective of generating a rapid rate of economic development, must also ensure that income is distributed in a socially equitable manner, without overlooking the efficiency of the system. The aim of this dissertation is to give an overview of income tax reforms which have taken place during the last decade, the efficiency of the new ax system, and the impact that these reforms have had on the economy vis-a-vis social equity.
