Abstract: The main aim of this dissertation is to analyse and evaluate bank mergers and acquisitions. The revolution in the financial industry has re-shaped the banking sector and has brought about an increase in consolidation. This dissertation focuses on both the theoretical and practical analysis, where the likely effects of mergers and acquisitions are analysed in depth. As the markets are becoming more competitive, bank mergers and acquisitions are analysed within the context of globalisation. The globalisation process in itself leads to a more competitive environment where certain synergies are created as a result of mergers or acquisitions. The issue of whether bank mergers or acquisitions help banks compete better globally is analysed in depth particularly by means of feedback from bank executives. Consequently, the pros and cons of bank mergers and acquisitions is examined. Finally, this dissertation aims to outline the alternatives available to mergers and acquisitions as a form of business partnership.
