The administration of a general hospital : a critical appraisal

Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to examine, with an analytical view, the running of Malta's general hospital. The discussion focuses on four main areas - the structure, organisation and function of the Hospital, the financing of this institution, performance indicators which are yardsticks to assist in the administration of the hospital and a closer look at the administrative factors that influence a patient's length of stay in hospital. Finally, I have proposed a few recommendations as possible 'eye openers' and guidelines which should be conducive to a better solution of the Administrative problems that are bound to beset St. Luke's.
