Abstract: Research indicates that in some western countries attitudes towards lesbian, gay and bisexual parents tend to be undergoing positive shifts (Hollekim, Slaatten & Anderssen, 2012), however local data on the issue is minimal. This is a study of the social perceptions and attitudes of students at the University of Malta towards lesbian, gay, and bisexual parents and the welfare of children raised by them. A questionnaire was conducted amongst 163 students (men and women) chosen at random. Participants assessed statements regarding adoption, artificial insemination, surrogate motherhood, co-parent adoption and the welfare of children. The results indicate that most students at the University of Malta hold positive attitudes towards lesbian, gay and bisexual parents. Results indicated that the level of religious affiliation and sexual orientation significantly predicted perceptions, whereas gender, age, marital status and residential district were not significant predictors, whilst political ideology predicted some attitudes but not others. These results are discussed in light of previous studies.
