Abstract: Overview : ADHD is a disorder that is noticeable by a constant pattern of inattention and hyperactivity – impulsivity which hinder development or functioning. These specific symptoms are common in ADHD individuals. Research Question : Utilizing the Population Intervention Comparison Outcome (PICO) framework, the subsequent question was formulated : In the management of ADHD symptoms in adults (P) is cognitive behavioral therapy(I) more effective than medication,(C) in reducing symptoms of ADHD(O)? Methods : A systematic search for literature was managed through HyDi, PubMed and EBSCO host. Diverse keywords and synonyms were utilized for the search. The search was limited to explicit study designs namely Systematic Reviews (SRs), Meta Analysis, Randomised controlled trial and cohort studies. The Outcome of the search resulted in six articles which consisted of (two SRS and four RCTs). The inclusion and exclusion criteria consisted of the articles were in full text, published in the last 10 years, in English Language, focused on adults and look into if CBT alone or CBT with medications decrease symptoms of ADHD. Articles that were published in abstract forms, included other type of disorders, other type of interventions and published before 2010 were excluded from the search. Results : The results of the appraised studies varied from one another. However the utilization of Cognitive behavioral therapy in reducing symptoms of ADHD in adults was supported by the selected articles .Conclusion : A defined conclusion about the relationship among CBT and medication to reduce ADHD symptoms cannot be present thus results of the chosen articles are not definite since more research is needed .Implementation and Recommendations : Recommendations for research education practice and management are discussed. Further research is required to establish accurate benefits of CBT and medication. In addition, more education and awareness is required with regards to ADHD. Nurses have a duty to ensure patient safety, monitor unsafe behaviour and promote education in the community. (Belleza, 2021)
