Abstract: This study aimed to identify the perceptions of youths towards sexual interactions amongst men and women as depicted in popular music videos. Data was collected by means of focus groups amongst young adults between 19 to 24 years. Major themes that transpired include the portrayal of genders in dominant and passive roles, real and non real situations, role models and the influence of lyrics and visuals. Some hostility also emerged between the male and female participants when discussing the portrayal of their respective genders. These themes are discussed in light of reviewed literature while recommendations for future studies may be found in the last chapter of this dissertation.
