From the Great Siege to the Battle of Lepanto : the life and times of Malta and the Order of St John, 1565-1571

Abstract

The Order of St John and its history never seem to stop enticing and luring readers and researchers. Many are constantly on the look-out for new studies which deal with the history and ordeals of this military monastic order that can boast of a longevity which few other organisations can equal or surpass. The publication From the Great Siege to the Battle of Lepanto is the third publication of focussed collected studies which the Sacra Militia Foundation has published up till now and which bring together established and budding researchers in an effort to increase the exposure of the feats and facts pertaining to the Order of St John. Such books aim at taking a particular theme and bringing to the fore detailed studies and new research connected to it. This present book takes three events which fit into the 1565 - 1571 period: the Great Siege of 1565, the building of Valletta, and the Battle of Lepanto of 1571.
