Abstract: This dissertation aims at showing the specific contribution of the Pauline Letters with regards to Jesus' vicarious death as developed from Old Testament Jewish thought. I propose to achieve this aim in three chapters. In the first chapter I shall discuss the concept of sin as it was developed by Paul from the Old Testament, therefore the necessity of reconciliation, and the different aspects and terminology used by Paul for the redemption. In the second chapter I shall tackle Paul's perception of the death of Christ as sacrifice, with emphasis on the fact that it was on our behalf. In the third chapter I shall discuss the saving significance of the resurrection in relation to Christ's vicarious death.Through this analysis I aim to be able to conclude that the Pauline contribution regarding Jesus' vicarious death is founded on Jesus' resurrection on our behalf.
