Abstract: The purpose of this study is to try and understand the figure of Beatrice and the Donne within the Vita Nova. Ample space will be dedicated to the female protagonist who will be examined in detail. It will be proven that Beatrice truly existed and how the author managed to transform his beloved into a miracle through the frequent use of the number nine. A chapter will be dedicated to the minor female figures in the book and their relationship with Beatrice and the lover Dante. Importance will also be given to the close relationship between the Donne, in particular Beatrice, and the Bible. The theory of courtly love will be explained and its transformation form Provencal love to divine love. Also the role of the pagan god Love and his integration within Beatrice will be explained.
