Abstract: | The idea of working on this dissertation originated after my exhibition of a set of paintings of oil-on-canvas. This exhibition was held at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta between 29th September and 22nd October, 2004. The inspiration behind these set of paintings is the two credit course in Johannine Literature given at the Faculty of Theology by Fr. Martin Micallef OFM Cap. The unique way John narrates the passion and the death of Jesus inspired me, to be a "maverich" artist like the Fourth Evangelist. The idea behind the choice of this title, "Emotions and Passion", came along after meditating on how to combine these two elements together, namely, the Gospel of John and my artistic abilities. On the one hand, "emotions" illustrate my feelings and my artistic interpretation of the Passion narratives in John. On the other hand, "Passion" points to the theme that dominates these narratives. Behind this title lies the style and the message of the Fourth Evangelist that he used to express his ideas as a narrative. |
