In view of the inexistence of appropriate management mechanisms and associated administrative structures at the Hagar Qim and Mnajdra complex, the present study envisages to explore ways to improve the existing situation. Furthermore, this work investigates different perceptions and opinions of various stakeholders, through ethnographic interviews and other data-gathering means and discusses the strengths and -constraints of the site under study. In addition, the landscape surrounding the site is appraised holistically and in an integrated manner so as to understand the interconnectedness of the various elements, which constitute the area. Finally, it is thought that a management plan approach is the most suitable long-term management option for the Hagar Qim and Mnajdra complex. In this regard, a comparative exercise with the Stonehenge management framework is conducted with a view to explore potential similarities and 'import' any positive experiences and success stories into the local scenario, that is, within that of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra temple sites. The management options that emerge from the current research shall hopefully bring about a better awareness of the site in question and an attitude change on the part of the implementing bodies. Notwithstanding the fact that the writer is not an archaeologist by training, an insight into local archaeology, where Hagar Qim and Mnajdra are concerned, is given. Finally, an account of recent events regarding the disgraceful terrorist attack on Mnajdra temple is also included.en_GB
