Abstract: This research topic analyses the phenomenon of Human Trafficking (HT) in the European Union (EU), with particular reference to HT taking place in Western Europe and Eastern Europe (the Netherlands and Romania). This research study delves into the relationship between Schengen and HT, particularly whether Schengen provides higher profits and lower risks for human traffickers. Scope and Objectives Although there are a lot of subdivisions in HT, this study centres around HT for the purpose of sexual exploitation. In order to get to the desired outcomes, the study will have to deal with; 1. To analyse the pinnacles of HT; 2. To establish whether corruption at the borders is facilitating HT; 3. To investigate the concepts of Schengen and whether these principles further encourage traffickers to engage in this act; 4. To identify the measures being adopted by Romania and the Netherlands in the fight against HT
