| Abstract: | The manifestation of popular religious beliefs can take various forms. One of these is the communal ritual embodied in the processions that pass through the streets of the parish, stirring a feeling of awe and admiration among the numerous onlookers. In Malta, the centuries-old religious processions are customary and well-organised events, bringing together the highly pious and the worldlier. The spiritual blends with the human element to produce a dynamic fusion of dramatic, scenic and evocative feelings. The Good Friday procession is one classic case of a vibrant and emotional reality. |
