| Abstract: | Foreign languages are becoming increasingly indispensable in our lives. Given the increasing importance of Spanish as a foreign language in the Maltese Islands during recent years, this research investigates the development of teaching and learning of Spanish in Malta and Gozo. Primarily, this study presents information collected from various sources about the process of teaching and learning a foreign language with specific focus on the Spanish language. Data have been collected mainly through the distribution of questionnaires among Spanish-learning students in Secondary and Post-Secondary schools in Malta and Gozo. These have been complemented by interviews with teachers of the Spanish language in the Maltese Islands to obtain a better view and a different perspective of the situation. The results that emerge from this study can lead to an improved promotion of Spanish in Maltese schools and a more enjoyable and smooth teaching-learning experience for both students and teachers. |
