| Abstract: | One could describe the last century of Hospitaller rule over Malta to be a modicum of change and continuity. While the drudgery of everyday life with its toil, hardship and dangers remained a real presence among the lower and underprivileged masses, at the same time developments on the continent gave the more advantaged classes and the members of the Order scope to endeavour in adventure, innovation and the beauty of life. |
