Abstract: The question of natural and scriptural prophecy has drawn the attention of scholars from both the Islamic world and from Christendom throughout the mediaeval period. It was set within the framework of the issue of the authenticity and, therefore, of the validity of the messages of those deemed to be prophets in both the Muslim and the Judeo-Christian tradition. The article begins with a brief synopsis of the doctrines of Ibn Sīnā, Mūsā b. Maymūn and Thomas Aquinas on the question of prophecy followed by an identification of the issues where they agree or diverge significantly. The positions taken by each of the three scholars were greatly influenced by the religious traditions to which they belonged.
