Abstract: The Climatisation Project at the Manoel Theatre has been a long time in the coming. There was a need to extend the dates when the theatre could be used to the hot and humid summer months. Besides the preservation of the building fabric, which is predominantly wood, was being adversely affected by the extreme variations in temperature and relative humidity. The aim of this dissertation is to analyse the recently completed Climatisation Project at the Manoel Theatre. An overview of the various technologies used to achieve the required temperature and humidity levels will be presented, and alternative technologies discussed and compared to what was installed at the Manoel Theatre, ultimately showing why the adopted technologies were used. This thesis will also investigate the effectiveness of the Climate control system. This will be achieved by monitoring the data being collected by the various sensors installed throughout the site. Following an analysis of this data, and a comparison to pre‐ determined temperature and humidity benchmarks, and acceptable deviations, it was determined that the system is in fact operating satisfactorily. There is however room for improvement, and this will be outlined in the final conclusions and recommendations.
