| Abstract: | This study delves into the Organisation and Management of a comprehensive school in NSW Wales. Apart from the basic managerial aspects, this study analyses to a certain depth, different roles played by the various members of staff. As I went along with the study I tried to pinpoint the various parts of the managerial work as compared to the Maltese situation. In so doing I tried to make clear what I believe are the strengths in our schools and what ought to be improved in view of my limited experience. An overview of Amman Valley school proved to be very positive for my personal advancement as well as an experience beneficial to all those who have at heart the holistic development of our students, for what was learnt can be implemented for the benefit of our students. I tried to answer questions such as: 'what is the impact of various innovative techniques used abroad on our local schools? How can school management better influence effectiveness of school work? In which aspects our schools tend to surpass those abroad and why? Is it possible to apply different utilities used abroad in our schools? If yes, how are they being effected? If no, why is it the case? These are the questions I attempted to provide an answer for in this essay. International literature sustained the importance of different theories as applied in practice abroad. The literature used gives a clear view of the close correlation between good managerial performance and effectiveness in the everyday running of the school. Understanding in practice concepts such as delegation, motivation, time management, pastoral care, inclusive education, assessment and curricular and extra-curricular activities can improve the positive impact of devolved leadership and make way for better teaching and learning. |
