| Abstract: | The quest for understanding is the first step to personal and professional development. This report is our journey in understanding: • How an educational system work and how this effects school management • How can a school successfully guarantee quality education? In chapter one, we try to analyse the Scottish educational system and its different components so as to acquaint ourselves more fully with the local system since we are fully immersed in it. This is the reason why we highlight the similarities and the divergences which exist between the two systems. In chapter two, we explore Jordanhill's school overall structure and staff organisation and how this facilitates the school's activities. We explore the different roles of the Board of governors and the S.M.T. Teaching staff is organised in subject departments and each department is involved in the review, planning and development cycle of the S.D.P. and the D.D.P. It is the administrative and teaching staff which animates these structures and systems. In chapter three, then, we examine closer the work that is going on that of balanced course planning, assessments, policies governing homework, discipline, support learning. extra curricular activities, counselling and career guidance. Such sterling work can't go on unevaluated and unsupported. In chapter four, we analyse the different roles of the S.M.T. members which is mainly that of assessing and supporting the work which is going on. This is quite an arduous task and so S.M.T. members share different job responsibilities so as to ensure an all-round quality education. S.M.T. work has to be linked with the subject Department work. In chapter five. we look at the H.O.D.s' roles which are mainly that of facilitating curricular reviews. annual department reports, D.D.P., budgeting and teacher appraisal. This complex system seems to be working. In the last chapter, then, we identify the main positive practices inherent in both the Scottish system and Jordanhill school and evaluate if these can be beneficial to our educational system and our schools. |
