Abstract: This report describes the observations I made during the first two weeks of November 2001, when I visited Ashbourne Community School in Ireland. The report focuses on the administrative and management practices in the school. Chapter 1 gives an overview of the origin of the school, the student population and its aims and objectives. Chapter 2 discusses the school's organisation and the roles of the staff. It also describes the financial management of the school. The School Life is described in Chapter 3, with an emphasis on the curriculum. Chapter 1 deals with the school policies and how they are developed. Chapter 5 is an overview of the strategies used in the management of the school, focusing on delegation, communication and school development. The final section of each chapter highlights the positive educational elements of the school and recommends changes that would improve the educational system in the Maltese Islands.
