Analysis of the administrative organizational structure of a local firm : how far can its values be related to the administration of a school

Abstract

The company is one of a group of companies operating on different lines. It is accountable to the Head Office of the group. This company is involved in the manufacture of various kinds of footwear for local and markets. A school in Malta is answerable to the Education Office which is the head office of the various state schools and institutes and all these are accountable to the Head Office. Schools in Malta are completely dependent on the Education Office for their student intake, teachers, staff and resources, whereas this firm is largely autonomous and the Head Office interferes very little in the running and management of the firm. The Managing Director chooses and employs staff himself, both at managerial level and labour level. The management of the firm also decides on the conditions of work of its employees and on changes that do not involve major expenses. However there are certain parameters which the Managing Director cannot go beyond. The Head Office has to be consulted when capital expenditure or major changes are involved and then the final decision is taken at the head office level.
