Abstract: The aim of this project was to design a control system for use on an industrial machine used in the weaving sector. Specified requirements included automatic fault sensing with ensuing shut down and GSM alert facilities. To this end, a microcontroller application was developed on a 32 bit ARM 7 platform. Necessary subsystems were designed to interface the controller to the machine by performing the signal conditioning required of each interface. Finally, the system was interfaced to a Linux server acting as a gateway for GSM and web services. SMS alerting and secure remote access to the system via encrypted SSH and SFTP was integrated into the system along with automated daily log transfer into the company's network attached storage server.
