Abstract: St. Edmund's Catholic School is a self -governing comprehensive school for boys and girls aged 11-18. There are 979 students taught by 72 teachers (4 part-time). This data refers to February 1995. The school is situated close to the commercial centre of the city of Portsmouth and it is also quite near to the railway station. The school is thus situated in the heart of an urban centre yet it is not hemmed in by buildings or troubled by heavy traffic. The school is in fact surrounded by a quiet area and a peaceful environment. […] Visit's schedule day by day: We can analyse and comment on the deeper insight I got of the school by describing class visits, staff interviews, discussions with administrators and talks with students. The visit' s schedule provides a good guide and a structured approach for such a study. We will also refer to school efficiency and effectiveness as we go along.
