A report on our visit, to Craigmount High School, Edinburgh, Scotland : 3rd - 14th November 1997

Abstract

Craigmount High School is one of the many High Schools found in Edinburgh and considered to be one of the best within the area. It is a co-educational and non-denominational secondary school serving suburbs on the west side of the City of Edinburgh. It draws most of its pupils from East Craigs, Drumbrae, Clermiston, Fox Cover, Gylemuir, Carrick Knowe, Balgreen, Roseburn, Corstorphine and Hillwood Primary Schools. The catchment area consists of a mixture of owner-occupied houses, flats, privately rented accommodation and council housing. CRAIGMOUNT caters for students between the age of 12 and 17 and it is a very popular school. See map showing the location of the school and the school's catchment area on page 2. The school was constructed in 1968 and opened in 1970 and occupies a commanding site on Craigs Road in Corstorphine. The campus comprises nine blocks, two transportable units, car parking, extensive grassed areas and playing fields. The school has a pupil roll of 1277. The total complement of teaching staff is of 13 3 persons, 98 of which are the teaching staff with 35 as support staff The Senior Management Team (SMT) consists of the Head Teacher (HT), Depute Head Teacher (DHT) and four Assistant Head Teachers (AHT).
