Abstract: This project, which was based at the factory Malta Water Fittings Co. Ltd., looks into the problems of a brass hot-pressing process which produces parts needed for a domestic water-tap. The aim of the project is two-fold. Its first aim is to perform a detailed study on brass especially the types of bra.ss.es detailed for use by the factory, both in their cold and plastic states. After this study the project looks at hot-pressing as a process with special reference to brass. The various aspects of the process such as advantages and disadvantages are looked into. The second part of the project is a design of an oil fired furnace required for the above specified process. This design is carried out in line with the information obtained in the first part of the project. Further to this a detailed study of materials to be used, types of burners to be used etc. is carried out. All this is done keeping in mind the economic point since it is a basic furnace design concept that the cost is kept to a minimum provided the needs one aims at are attained. In each chapter of this project a logical presentation of facts has been aimed at and wherever possible a comparative report on cost analysis is given [...].
