Weston Favell Upper School : 4th - 14th November 2003 : an observation visit report

Abstract

This dissertation focuses mainly on the various aspects that are embodied within the organisational structures that make Weston Favell Upper School what it is - a Community School. The work presented is the result of several interviews with various members of the teaching staff, the senior management team and other administrative personnel during my visit to the school. The school archives, relevant websites, and other literature published by the school also provided me with an extensive source of background information. An overview of the secondary education sector in England is given in Chapter 1. Then, Chapter 2 deals with the school's raison d'être, its history and progression over the years. Chapter 3 focuses on the Investor in People status the school has been awarded with. In Chapter 4 we take a look at what makes Weston Favell Upper School a Community School. Chapter 5 deals summarily with the school's primary organisational structures whilst in Chapter 6 some of the more important school policies are discussed. Finally, Chapter 7 contains an overall evaluation of programmes and practices observed at Weston Favell Upper School and how the education system, and society, in Malta would benefit by applying parallel measures and policies.
