‘New wine in new wineskins’ : the challenges of new evangelization in contemporary Maltese society

Abstract

The Church still presents itself in a way that is foreign to contemporary men. Forty years ago, the Vatican Council Document "Gaudium et Spes" urged that the Church should scrutinize the signs of the times to adapt itself to contemporary culture. Has this been accomplished in Malta? In my dissertation, I will discuss how the Maltese Church could present itself in a way that is adequate to contemporary culture. Various surveys have shown that a good number of people are leaving the Church. This might be the reason In a post-modem era where fellowship crumbles and hopes wither away, the need is more felt for the new wine to be delivered in new wineskins.
